The Differences Between 7075, 6061 and 6063

7075 t6 aluminum has a higher hardness than Al 6063 t5. Compared with 6061,6063 aluminum alloy is relatively soft, has good ductility and plasticity. Learn more.
6063 VS 7075 aluminum plate
7075 is an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy with a slightly higher density than pure aluminum. The density of 7075 aluminum alloy is 2.8 grams per cubic centimeter, and the density of 6063 aluminum alloy is 2.71 grams per cubic centimeter. It is widely used in the frames of building aluminum doors, windows, and curtain walls.
1. Mechanical properties
The 7 series aluminum alloy has the highest hardness value among all aluminum alloys, so it is suitable for the aerospace field. 7075-t6 aluminum has the highest strength. The 6 series aluminum alloy has medium hardness and can basically meet the needs of production and life.
2. Aluminum sheet price
The higher the hardness of the aluminum alloys, the more difficult the production process is to control, so the cost of aviation aluminum is very high. The general 6 series aluminum alloy (the most commonly used 6063 and 6061) has medium hardness, is easy to form by extrusion, and has low production cost.
3. Welding
Aviation aluminum cannot be welded and can only be connected by other methods. Ordinary buildings and industrial aluminum profiles can be welded, so the application field is wider.
6061 VS 6063
The main alloying elements of 6061 aluminum alloy are aluminum, magnesium and silicon. Its chemical composition is characterized by high content of silicon, magnesium and copper, which are 0.40.8%, 0.81.2% and 0.150.4% respectively.
The main alloying elements of 6063 aluminum alloy are aluminum, silicon and magnesium, which are lower than those of 6061. The silicon content is 0.20.6%, the magnesium content is 0.450.9%, and the copper content is 0.1%.
Physical properties
6061 has a hard strength of 316Mpa and a soft strength of 127Mpa. Since 6061 aluminum alloy contains a higher proportion of magnesium and silicon elements, it has higher strength and hardness. 6063 has a hard material strength of 295Mpa and a soft material strength of 111Mpa. Al 6063 t5 is its hard state.
In contrast, 6063 aluminum alloy is relatively soft, has good ductility and plasticity, and is easy to process. Therefore, if higher strength and hardness are required, it is more appropriate to choose 6061 aluminum alloy; if good plasticity and processing performance are required, it is more appropriate to choose 6063 aluminum alloy.
