Blister Pack: Aluminum Foil, PVC and PVDC

For the blister packaging of medicines, not only is blister pack foil need, but also PVC and PVDC is needed. What are their properties, limitations and uses? Haomei Aluminum tells you. Learn more.
In daily life, when we open the medicine packaging box, we often see small blister packages. It is not only convenient to carry and take medicines, but also an "invisible guard" to ensure the quality and safety of medicines. Today, let us take a deeper look at the medicine blister packaging and explore its structure and core materials.
Structure of drug blister packaging
Medicine blister pack mainly consists of two parts: blister and cover layer. The blister part is made of plastic sheets through thermoforming process to form small raised bubbles to hold drugs. These bubbles can be round, oval, square and other shapes to fit different types of tablets, capsules, etc.
The cover layer is usually made of aluminum foil. After printing, gluing and other processes, blister pack foil is tightly sealed with the blister to form a closed space, which effectively isolates the outside air, moisture, light and microorganisms, and provides a good storage environment for drugs.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
PVC is one of the commonly used plastic materials in drug blister packaging. It has good thermoforming properties and can be easily processed into blisters of various shapes. It is also highly transparent, which makes it convenient for consumers to check the appearance, color and quantity of drugs and to judge whether the drugs have deteriorated.
In addition, the price of PVC is relatively low, which can control the packaging cost to a certain extent. However, the barrier properties of PVC are relatively weak, especially the barrier effect against oxygen and water vapor is limited. Therefore, in some drug packaging with high requirements for storage conditions, it is usually necessary to use it in combination with other materials.
Polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC)
PVDC is a high-performance barrier material that has strong barrier properties against oxygen, water vapor, odor, etc., and can significantly extend the shelf life of drugs. At the same time, PVDC also has good chemical stability and oil resistance, which can effectively prevent chemical reactions between drugs and packaging materials.
Although PVDC has excellent barrier properties, it is difficult to process and the cost is relatively high, so it is generally compounded with materials such as PVC to make PVC and PVDC composite materials, which can reduce costs and improve processing performance while ensuring good barrier properties.
PTP blister foil
Blister aluminum foil is an important component of pharmaceutical blister packaging, usually composed of aluminum foil, adhesive and protective layer. Aluminum foil itself has excellent barrier properties, which can completely block light, oxygen and moisture, providing a high degree of protection for drugs.
The role of the adhesive is to make the aluminum foil fit tightly with the blister plastic sheet to form a good sealing effect. The protective layer can prevent the aluminum foil from being damaged during printing, sealing and other processing processes, and also help to improve the printability of the aluminum foil, making the text and patterns on the package clearer and more beautiful.
Haomei Aluminum not only has rich types of pharmaceutical aluminum foils, but also has rich types of plastic rigid to realize your one-stop purchasing like PVC, PVDC, PE/PET, composite materials. Welcome to inquire what you need from us.
